POSITION SUMMARY:

Directly manages or assists in:

·         Preparation of financial statements for Archdiocesan entities

·         Preparing cash flow analysis and other financial analysis

·         Performing fund balance analysis and rollforward

·         Providing effective accounting support for other departments, parishes, schools and other Archdiocesan organizations

·         Annual budgeting process & forecasting

·         Some General Ledger accounting and monthly and annual closing process

·         Construction and project accounting

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 

·         Participates in overall management of department relative to implementation of department goals

·         Recommends and implements changes to streamline and improve the accounting systems. Ensures adherence to GAAP.

·         Assists with the month-end close process including the analysis of financial statement variances and system issues. Assists in the annual financial statement audit.

·         Performs balance sheet account reconciliation and review process to ensure that reconciling items have been researched and resolved in a timely manner and in accordance with policy and that system and process issues are corrected

·         Develops and implements accounting procedures for specific project accounting;

·         Provides assistance in preparation of financial statements for not-for-profit entities

·         Gathers, reviews and analyzes data and prepares routine and special financial reports for management review.

·         Supervises and trains staff as required for specific projects.

·         Supports other internal departments regarding accounting and reporting requirements.

·         Supports the IT department, as an end user, in the implementation, upgrade and testing of accounting software package

·         Develops and encourages teamwork among staff members through cross-training of comparable positions and emphasizing the goal of the department of providing support to others; coaches and trains staff; fosters open dialogue among staff to create a feeling of belonging to a team.

·         Assist in work with the ACC’s independent auditors and responds to their inquiries during year-end audits.

·         Assumes related responsibilities as necessary.

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

 

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

 

·         Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related area.

·         CPA license required

·         Three to seven years experience in progressively more responsible general accounting positions.  

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:

 

·         GAAP, accounting systems and procedures.

·         Principles of management and supervision.

·         PeopleSoft accounting system is a plus but not a requirement.

 

Skill in:

 

·         Oral and written communication

·         Management and supervision

·         Short and long range planning and organization

·         Developing policies and procedures.

·         Team building.

 

 

Ability to:

 

·         Set objectives and develop strategies.

·         Train, motivate and develop employees.

·         Ability to multi-task and prioritize within a very fast-paced and demanding work environment.

·         Ability to be flexible and adaptable.

·         Travel within Archdiocese boundaries as needed.

·         Maintain confidentiality.

·         Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

·         Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.

·         Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.

·         Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
