Assistant Director of Development

To assist the Director of Development in ensuring that all of Junipero Serra High School advancement activities properly support and reflect the school’s strategic mission, goals, and fiscal responsibilities. This position reports directly to the Director of Development. The Development Assistant works with the Director of Development in planning, directing, and coordinating all school-based development activities and major fundraising activities.

 

Primary Responsibilities

1.      Support the Director of Development in implementing, coordinating, and organizing the Tuition Assistance program for alumni, non-alumni, parents, and corporations & organizations.

2.      Manage the implementation and coordination of a procedure and protocol for electronic and paper records of contributors and grants. Maintain security and quality controls. Implement verification that development and business office records are both accurate. Generate queries, reports, exports and any other collection of data as needed. Produce tax verification documents for contributions and grants where applicable.

 

3.      Research public and private grant sources (agencies, corporations, and foundations) to identify sources of restricted and unrestricted funding and assist in organizing individual donor campaigns.

4.      Construct and publish the annual report and spring appeals letter as part of two major donation campaigns. Collect and verify all applicable information, statistics, and artwork necessary for the report and letter. Track the revenue generated directly from the annual report and spring appeals letter.

5.      Compile and manage the alumni newsletter. Update email lists and social media followings to ensure maximum distribution. Construct a newsletter that is appealing to alumni, non-alumni, and parents alike. Communicate campus-wide with all staff, faculty, and administration in order to report on all the areas of school and student activities.

6.      Manage events, including but not limited to, the Dedication to Excellence, Golf Tournament, and Alumni Reunions, with the Director of Development. Create and produce promotions material for each event, including but not limited to, tickets, invitations, registration forms, sponsorship forms, and silent auction donation forms. Organize the silent auction where applicable. Create and publish the event program book to include all sponsorships and ads sold for the event.

 

7.      Attend and assist other development and/or alumni events, including but not limited to, the alumni table at home football games, halftime shows at home football and basketball games, the alumni homecoming event.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervise parent/guardian volunteers in the Development Department seeking service hours where applicable. Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the school and Archdiocese policies and applicable laws.

 

Scope and Responsibility

1.   Knowledge of formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures, which will include familiarity with other departments within school, including volunteers and outside users of school facilities.

2.      Demonstrate sensibility to interrelationship of both people and functions within department and school, including volunteers and outside users of school facilities.

Faith Community

1.      Uphold and model a moral code, which is consistent with the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church and mission of the School;

 

2.      Assist the Director of Development in ensuring that all development programs reflect the Catholic (and religious community’s) mission of the School;

 

3.      Assist the Director of Development in ensuring that all marketing, communications, recruitment and enrollment management programs, practices, and materials reflect the Catholic (and religious order’s) mission of the School;

 

4.      Remain aware of and represent the religious aims and objectives of the School to the local community.​
