St. James School in Torrance has a 100-year history of faith formation and academic excellence within the parish community of St. James, Redondo Beach, and in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

The school operates with an enrollment of 290 students in Grades K-8, with the majority of students coming from St. James parish.  Almost all of the students are Catholic.  The Catholic Identity of St. James School is clearly expressed in its Mission Statement, Philosophy Statement, and School-Wide Learning Expectations. 

Any candidate should have strong leadership, organization and communication skills to build upon an excellent program and move the school forward into the next ten years and beyond.  The goal is to help students develop as competent, confident, and caring Catholics prepared to be responsible members of their Church, local and global communities. In academic areas, the principal must be passionate and conscientious about supporting high achievement and growth for all students through a variety of instructional methods.


Practicing Catholic who is committed to Catholic education

 Minimum 5 years teaching experience, at least 2 of those 5 years in Catholic education

Minimum 5 years administrative experience as a principal and/or Vice-principal

Earned Master’s degree in School Administration

California Credential (teaching and/or administrative

Preference given to candidates with Catechist Certification
