2nd Grade Teacher

St. Monica Catholic Elementary School, part of the vibrant St. Monica Catholic Community in Santa Monica, is seeking a 2nd grade teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. 

The successful applicant will:

Demonstrate an understanding of the unique social-emotional development of 2nd grade students.

Demonstrate practical and theoretical knowledge of the academic curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management necessary for student success in 2nd grade.

Promote effective collaboration between families and school; and among the SMCES staff.

Demonstrate the ability to make thoughtful, informed decisions; and the ability to teach in an environment that demands the integration of theory and practice in a Catholic environment.

Be an active Catholic in the sacramental life of the Church and demonstrate the ability to prepare students to receive the sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.


The minimum requirements are:

An undergraduate degree (BA, BS) from an accredited university or college.

A California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, a California Single Subject Teaching Credential, or equivalent from another state.

Full-time teaching experience.      

The ability to join a professional community of educators committed to providing a challenging standards-based curriculum in a Catholic environment of service.

The ability to use technology effectively in LMS and adaptive/assignable programs.


In addition to the above, the preferred requirements are:

An advanced degree (MA, MS) in Education.

Primary grade teaching experience.
