Director of Educational Technology

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Catholic Schools in collaboration with the two Deputy Superintendents and the Associate Superintendent, the Director of Educational Technology will

  • Support Regional Supervisors, site administrators and faculty in the use of new instructional technology;
  • Facilitate workshops to educate key stakeholders in the use of educational technology;
  • Identify and recommend the latest technology available to support student learning;
  • Provide direction, guidance and oversight in all technology initiatives and projects within the schools.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 

Empowering groups:

  • Provide vision for integrating technology into instruction and the use of technology for the assessment and monitoring of student progress.
  • Institute, monitor and direct professional development programs designed to help administrators and teachers effectively integrate technology in the classroom. Utilize webinars, on-line learning and/or other related adult-learning methodologies in order to direct the professional development.

 

Empowering leadership:

  • Consult with administration on network related security issues where applicable.
  • Assist Regional Supervisors with educational technology issues and minor troubleshooting.

 

Collaboration:

  • Act as liaison with designated building contacts to coordinate the purchase of software for office applications.
  • Participate in technology or other professional growth activities and conferences to keep abreast of current and future trends in education and instructional technology.

 

Systems and Troubleshooting:

  • Develop a systematic approach to assist with daily technology related concerns, problems and issues. These will include both technological and pedagogical concerns.
  • Provide guidelines, consultation and directives as they relate to technology security and usage protocol. This may include and will not be limited to the ethical and legal use of all technology accessed by students, staff and administrators. Supervise adherence to protocols by all staff and students.
  • Implement and sustain the technical components of diocesan-wide integration of STAR Enterprise, including providing end-user support with both technical and pedagogical considerations
  • Interface with third-party organizations and vendors providing relevant services for Academic Excellence and act as primary point-of-contact for technical considerations (e.g. SchoolSpeak, STAR)

 

Specific Areas of Focus: 

C3

  • Serve as member of C3 Working Group, and provide general expertise and consultation to C3 initiatives involving elementary and secondary schools
  • Ensure alignment of C3 Ignite processes, protocols, and implementation strategies to overall strategy for schools as defined by the Department of Catholic Schools
  • Facilitate communication between schools and C3 leadership as needed for C3 initiatives
  • Define, articulate, and implement vision for professional learning related to education technology through the C3 Technology Conference, including planning and delivery of relevant workshops and learning experiences 

 


E-rate/CTF

  • Empower and develop capacity of school personnel and leaders to procure funding for connectivity through E-rate and California Teleconnect Fund
  • Provide consultative support to schools in procuring E-rate eligible services, as needed
  • Act as liaison, when needed, between E-rate consulting firm and schools to ensure funding procurement
  • Organize and support diocesan-wide consortium efforts to secure funding for E-rate eligible internal connections upgrade (e.g. Consortium for Infrastructure) 

 

Digital and Social

  • Serve as liaison between Digital department and Department of Catholic Schools
  • Consult and support content development and overall strategy for Department of Catholic Schools digital and social media channels
  • Facilitate communication between schools and Digital department for a broad array of initiatives, including special events and targeted school/program initiatives

 

DCS-specific

  • Lead implementation and utilization of diocesan-wide and internal data systems, including SchoolSpeak and the DCS Data Dashboard
  • Provide ongoing support to stakeholders in utilizing diocesan-wide and internal data systems, including SchoolSpeak, Data Dashboard, STAR, ACES, SharePoint, Google Drive, etc.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:


  • Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.
  • Master's degree in education related field.
  • Five years teaching experience in a Catholic school K-12 environment.
  • Demonstrated record of initiative, creativity, and leadership in the use of educational technology.
  • Extensive experience in creating and facilitating online learning experiences.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Terminology of educational technology.
  • Methods of educational technology.
  • Elementary school, secondary school or religious education curriculum.
  • Laws governing selection, duplication and use of copyrighted materials.

 

Skill in:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and computer skills across platforms.
  • Public speaking and adult education.
  • Strong written and oral communication.
  • Working with and in a religious and educational setting.
  • Communication diplomatically and tactfully with diverse religious, educational, professional and public representatives.

 

Ability to:

  • To provide leadership and direction to elementary and secondary schools using technology.
  • To organize prioritize, and follow through on multiple tasks.
  • To evaluate and select instructional materials which meet the needs of the parishes and schools.
  • To negotiate with vendors.
  • To solve practical problems while dealing with variables in situations where limited standardization exists.
  • To prepare proposals and to review contracts.
  • To develop manuals and publications to publicize programs and services, specifically in electronic formats.
  • To exercise independent judgment and to assume responsibility.
  • Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
