The Office of Life, Justice and Peace (OLJP) implements the vision of Archbishop José Gomez on social issues by offering strategic leadership to parishes and community partners through education, advocacy, prayer and service. OLJP promotes the common good, rooting initiatives in the reality that each person is created by God for relationship with him and in community with others.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, with our vast ethnic, cultural and economic diversity, is a small manifestation of the universal Church. Promoting authentic human development in this context requires a culture of encounter and a transformative commitment to solidarity.

OLJP focuses on the issues of abortion, assisted suicide, death penalty, human trafficking, homelessness, poverty, foster care, healthcare, post-abortion healing, religious freedom, and environmental justice within the context of developing an authentic human ecology for the communities of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

The Associate Director for Projects and Programs (ADPP) is responsible is responsible for the development and maintenance of all initiatives of OLJP. The ADPP maintains strategic partnerships with organizations and agencies throughout the Archdiocese to ascertain needs and determine appropriate resources. The ADPP works closely with the OLJP team, the Digital team, and the Government Relations team to coordinate efforts as appropriate. The ADPP conducts thorough research, builds relationships with local, state and national leaders, examines existing resources, and identifies what is necessary for the success of each OLJP initiative. 

The ADPP coordinates special events and takes on time-sensitive projects at the instruction of Archbishop’s Office, the Senior Director, or legislative demands. The ADPP works closely with production and promotion teams in the Archdiocese, in parishes and in the broader community.

The ADPP possesses detailed knowledge of all OLJP projects and programs and is dedicated to advocating and advancing these priorities—both within the agencies, parishes and schools of the Archdiocese as well as with the public including government, community and cultural agencies. The ADPP operates within the structure of OLJP and works with a high degree of independence, initiative and prudence, and adheres to strict professional standards of confidentiality.



  • Utilize detailed knowledge of Catholic social doctrine, Catholic leaders and organizations, current events, and legislative priorities to recommend program priorities for OLJP.
  • Conduct thorough research on a wide variety of topics pertaining to Catholic social doctrine, Catholic advocacy efforts, current events, leaders and organizations, and any other topics as necessary.
  • Work closely with the Associate Director for Parish and Community Leadership Development to ascertain the effectiveness of current projects and programs and ways to improve for Archdiocesan parishes and schools.
  • Develop annual operations budget for any new resources and events, including training and support services
  • Create and maintain strategic communications resources for OLJP including weekly 5 Things to Know e-newsletter, ADLA webpages, external program websites, and media resources as needed.
  • Serve as a spokesperson for OLJP in print, radio or TV media as needed.
  • Regular public speaking and writing on priority topics of OLJP
  • Coordinate on-going assessment of effectiveness of OLJP initiatives and programs. Work closely with community partners, contracted employees, volunteers and other leaders to develop and implement improvements as needed.
  • Analyze and create recommendations for support or opposition of legislation at the local, state and national level.
  • Potentially, travel to meet leaders and/or experience effective programs.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with key pastors, regional bishops, community leaders, and leaders in other faith communities to facilitate effective collaboration and leadership development.
  • Represent OLJP on various committees, teams, and at regional and national meetings as requested.
  • Analyze and prioritize resources and initiatives based on the vision of Archbishop Gomez and the mission of OLJP.
  • Collaborate with Department of Catholic Schools, Department of Religious Education, and other ADLA departments to support and create programs that further the OLJP mission.
  • Work closely with the Parish & Community Leadership Developer and the Parish Leadership Coordinator to coordinate program development, training opportunities, leadership resources, and partnerships with local life-affirming organizations.
  • Strategically anticipate the needs of OLJP to educate and advocate on life, justice and peace issues throughout the year and in response to liturgical and advocacy priorities.
  • Work with the OLJP team to strategize projects and programs that meet the needs of the ADLA community and further the OLJP mission.
  • Communicate with ADLA and parish leadership to advance goals, discern needs, and promote OLJP projects and programs.
  • Research and develop materials that meet the needs of the people and institutions in ADLA; promote programs; manage timelines and budgets.
  • Respond rapidly to new initiatives and strategy as needed to meet the needs of the ADLA community on advocacy and educational efforts.
  • Lead the communication strategy, determination of talent, and recruitment of Community Partners for OneLife LA annually, working closely with the production company and the OLJP team to determine theme, speakers, and community partners.
  • Facilitate strategic partnerships with leaders and organizations in ADLA and the community to further the OLJP mission.



Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Practicing Catholic with detailed knowledge of Catholic social doctrine.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working in Catholic social and/or pro-life ministry.
  • Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills. 
  • Strong project management, research and analytical skills.
  • Outstanding communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver oral and written reports and presentations to a variety of audiences.
  • Ability to accomplish projects with little supervision.
  • Fluent in written and verbal English and Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to determine priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and ability to drive multiple projects concurrently, both independently and in a team.
