Licensed Vocation Nurse for Retired/Ill Priests (Part Time)

Under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse/Liaison, the Licensed Vocation Nurse provides nursing care in accordance with the scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice and treats co-workers, patients, families with dignity and respect.

The Licensed Vocational Nurse for Retired Priests will work collaboratively with the Chancery’s Liaison for retired and ill Clergy performing a variety of duties relating to health matters.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and missions of the Church in performing their work.

  • Evaluates, identifies and manages specialized health needs.
  • Visits ill and retired Clergy.
  • Determines needs and connects them with appropriate resources.
  • Connects with the responsible parties regarding the priests’ health status
  • Prepares bi-weekly reports.
  • Documents pertinent patient information, assessment and nursing procedures following established protocols.
  • Prepares priests transition from active life to retirement.
  • Acts as a patient advocate and educator to assure that the patient has knowledge to care for their condition and patient is educated and empowered to be responsible for participating in the plan of care.
  • Facilitates patients' return to normal daily activities by educating and making appropriate referrals for outside services/continued care.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by physician order following established protocols.
  • Maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Identify and arrange for equipment needing repair.
  • Interprets regulations, health plan benefits, policies, and procedures
  • Coordinates Medical appointments.
  • Ensures accurate records are maintained regarding care associated with each individual
  • Performs other job-related tasks as determined by Liaison.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively with Liaison.
  • Must be on call during weekends as needed.


Education and Experience

  • Graduate form an accredited LVN school of Nursing
  • 5 years’ experience as a LVN
  • Current California Licensed Vocational Nurse & Basic Life Support Card
  • Must be fluent in verbal and written English/Spanish.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • The Catholic Church, Catholic teaching and traditions.
  • Display sensitivity to various situations and needs.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.


Ability to:

  • Analyze situations and use judgment and resourcefulness.
  • Communicate effectively and fluently in written and oral form in both English and Spanish.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Maintain confidentiality in keeping with HIPPA regulations.
  • Maintain tact and cooperation
  • Pastoral approach to caring for the sick.
  • Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.
  • Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
  • Ability to bend and lift up to 30lbs.
  • Ability to drive to various locations located within the Archdiocese of the Los Angeles.
