POSITION SUMMARY: The Community Outreach Specialist enhances the awareness and use of the Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries with the ADLA parishes, employees, religious orders, patrons, and various related organizations through relationship building and educational events.  In addition, this position may perform various services and client relations activities, while establishing and maintaining effective communication of efforts with cemetery staff, parish priests and Archdiocese of Los Angeles (ADLA) officials.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work. The Community Outreach Specialist needs to have a comprehensive understanding of the guidelines provided by the Order of Christian Funerals.

  • To plan, organize, coordinate, execute, and manage the community outreach activities within assigned Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries region. 
  • Develop relationships with ADLA parishes, employees, religious orders, patrons, and various health care industries, such as hospice, retirement facilities, medical facilities, etc. – to secure outreach events.
  • Work with the Community Outreach Director as needed in the continuous improvement of the Catholic Cemeteries and Mortuaries Outreach Education program.
  • Create, maintain and update the standard courses and/or presentation content of each program.
  • Facilitate the planning process of educational and outreach events within assigned region.
  • Communicate with leaders of various groups to assure professional image.
  • Order, print and assemble all necessary elements to promote events and necessary handout materials.
  • Secure all door prizes for each presentation.
  • Coordinate the mailing of quick campaign letters and event invitations.
  • Print and distribute support materials to promote events.
  • Travel and coordinate presentations in region.
  • Provide educational support to cemetery and mortuary managers within region.
  • Primary presenter for all events within region.
  • Complete the measurement system to monitor the activity and effectiveness of each event.
  • Develop monitoring system for parish outreach sales results.
  • Participation and/or attendance at conferences as directed (Religious Education, CCW, etc.).
  • Attend and participate in management meetings and training sessions.
  • Perform related duties as required.​

Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

A combination of experience and education likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

  • Active member of a Catholic Faith community.
  • Bachelor or Associates degree in human relations courses or equivalent successful, documented work experience preferred.
  • Extensive background in death care industry.
  • Active driver’s license in good standing.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • History of positive leadership, good judgment and training skills.
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and create a team atmosphere.
  • Demonstrated ability to deal effectively with people.

Skill in:

  • Passion for training and educating others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Ability to:

  • Communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Operate calculator and computer.
  • Ability to lift, move and carry heavy boxes (event materials).
  • Availability and willingness to travel within the Archdiocese of Los Angeles area, occasional overnight stay may be required.
