Assistant Director of Donor Research and Prospect Management

​POSITION SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Donor Research and Prospect Management is responsible for designing, implementing and coordinating a comprehensive donor research and prospect management program for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The Assistant Director will be part of a dynamic development team that is focused on growing the development program across the Archdiocese. The Assistant Director will be a proven leader with a track record of creating and implementing donor research and prospect management programs at complex organizations. A key goal is to increase our number of new donors and deepen the relationships with current donors and constituents.

 

The Director will report to the Executive Director of Advancement Services who is a member of the Chief Development Officer’s leadership team.  All members of the development team support, promote and live the Archbishop’s pastoral values of service, stewardship, communication and excellence.

 

The Assistant Director is responsible for creating and implementing key strategies and initiatives for donor research and prospect management for both individuals and organizational donor groups. The candidate must understand the role of strong donor research and prospect management in fundraising, and must have successful experience at progressively higher levels of responsibility within a nonprofit development department; exception written and oral communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills reflected in an ability to work effectively with other professional colleagues, donors, and prospects in a team-oriented environment; a high degree of detail orientation, commitment to accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple projects at once; ability to work independently; a high energy level and commitment to professional growth and responsibilities; unquestioned integrity and fiscal accountability; and, the ability to plan and achieve long and short-term goals.

 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

         Develops, implements, and leads a successful and integrated donor research and prospect management system that supports annual giving, and major and planned gifts fundraising at the Archdiocese.  

         Provides support to fundraisers and develops prospect management system (including individual portfolio reports) that helps to move prospects through the donor cycle:  Identification, Qualification, Cultivation, Solicitation and Stewardship.

         Develops prospect rating system and works with fundraisers to rate their donors.

         Helps fundraisers to establish appropriately sized portfolios to meet their annual revenue goals.

         Conducts targeted research on prospects and donors at the request of fundraisers.

         Mines the database and conducts independent research to identify new prospects/donors to add to fundraisers' portfolios.

         Creates Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track activities and "touches" such as calls, emails and visits through a custom monthly report of activities.

         Prepares briefings for donor visits and events.

         Enters research findings and briefings into Raisers Edge. 

Requirements:

​MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

  • Bachelors degree from accredited college / university.
  • Minimum 2-5 years of non-profit (higher education preferred) experience focused on  donor research and prospect management. 



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Demonstrated high level research, writing and oral communications skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the role of donor research to fundraising, the donor cycle, prospect management and KPIs.
  • Strong understanding of core concepts of relational databases (Raiser’s Edge preferred).
  • Experience working in a customer relationship management (CRM) system.
  • Demonstrated strategic planning experience: Determines short and long-term objectives and strategies for meeting goals and allocating resources according to priorities.
  • Self-motivated and goal oriented.




Skill in:

  • Solid relationship management skills at all levels in organization
  • Strong computer skills including above average competency on Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Comfort and knowledge of Internet. 
  • Attention to detail, accuracy and communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills. 


Ability to:

  • Must be able to organize materials and prioritize projects and meet deadlines.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced, team environment.
  • Able to create/audit/review reports.
  • Ability to work with applied technology, accounting and fundraising professionals to yield reports and data that reflect productivity.
