Position Summary

 Responsible for the faith formation of the parish in collaboration with the pastor for adults, youth and children; including A) Theological B) Catechetical and C) Administrative aspects.

 Duties and Responsibilities

 Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 Works closely with the Pastor, St. Peter Claver Parish Council, and the Parish Organizational Committee to provide effective leadership throughout the parish and to implement faith formation for the parish in accordance with the mission statement and goals established for the parish. 

As a leader in the parish, the Director of Faith Formation shall:

  1. Be a practicing Catholic with knowledge and understanding of the faith.
  2. Be deeply committed to developing their personal faith life as well as that of catechists and students.
  3. Be dedicated to the ministry of faith formation.
  4. Be familiar with Church documents, especially those pertaining to faith formation.

 Formation and Evangelization

·         Assists people with an understanding of their lives and faith experiences in the light of Scriptures and the Church’s tradition.

·         Provides programs which enable members of the parish community to grow in their knowledge of Scripture, and how the Scriptures speaks to us today.

·         Presents an overview of the Church’s social teaching to catechists, parents, and adult learners.


·         Utilizes appropriate methodologies of adult-centered and child-centered learning.

·         Implements or supports a program of catechist formation according to Archdiocesan certification norms.

·         Involves the family as an essential agent in the faith formation process, especially in the formation of children and adolescents.

·         Incorporates service opportunities, and reflections on these experiences, in catechetical programs for adults, adolescents, and children; especially linking such opportunities to the fostering of peace and justice.


·         Develops and seeks appropriate approval for a job description for oneself and others for whom the Director is responsible for.

·         Manage all salaried and volunteer Faith Formation staff by communicating with and affirming people by using appropriate interpersonal skills.

·         Reviews, evaluates, supports and develops programs, mission statements, long and short-range goals and objectives for catechists and students.

 Coordination and Evaluation

·         Oversees Safeguard the Children guidelines and Archdiocesan policies concerning interaction with minors; the maintenance of accurate records on students, families, catechists and other participants; the arrangements for the parish participation in the Religious Education Congress; the development of systems to extend program opportunities to groups and individuals less likely to participate because of special needs; that appropriate legal responsibilities are met within the context of parish programs.

·         Collaborates with the Coordinators of Faith Formation in creating the schedules for programs; in choosing resources for programs; in drafting the annual Faith Formation Budget; in assisting in planning all liturgies involving sacramental celebrations.

·         Maintains a collaborative ministerial relationship with other pastoral staff, parish ministry leadership, the Archdiocesan office and colleagues in the professional field, including participating in parish staff meetings and retreats, regional PCL meetings and retreats and Faith Formation collaborative meetings.



Educational Background:

An undergraduate or graduate degree in theology or religious studies, or equivalent experience in multigenerational catechesis, minimum of six years.

 Minimum Requirement:

Archdiocesan certification through the Advanced Catechetical Ministries Program (ACM) or Master Catechist Program.

Six years recent catechetical experience.

A record of attendance at diocesan workshops and seminars for ongoing education.

 Administrative Experience:

Organizational experience through salaried positions of executive responsibility.

Experience in working with and organizing adult volunteers.

A record of attendance at workshops and seminars for ongoing education.

             Faith Formation Office Hours:

            Sunday 8am – 1pm

            Monday 1pm-9pm

            Tuesday 1pm- 9pm

            Wednesday 1pm- 9pm

            Thursday 1pm – 9pm

            Friday Closed

            Saturday Closed

Schedule will be flexible to accommodate special events.​
