St. Monica Catholic Elementary School

St. Monica Catholic Elementary School (SMCES), part of the vibrant St. Monica Catholic Community in Santa Monica, is accepting applications from qualified Catholic educators for a full-time vice-principal position.

The qualified applicant will: 

1. Be mission driven and mission oriented. The vice-principal must be able to fully support the work of SMCES and collaborate as a team member with the Parish, High School, and Elementary School. 

2. Be an agent of change in areas of school-wide improvements to authentically and positively transform the culture, the practice, and the systems of our school. 

3. Collaborate in shaping a vision and creating action steps to innovate instruction and learning, in order to provide an environment to ensure the academic success of all students.

4. Be able and willing to take the responsibility of the authority that in inherent in our vice-principal position. Assist the principal in advancing the authentic collaboration of a Catholic professional learning and teaching community.

5. Possess an understanding of the unique spiritual, academic, social-emotional, and physical development of students in grades TK through 8th. 

6. Possess knowledge of the academic curriculum, instructional strategies, and classroom management necessary for student success in a Catholic elementary school.

7. Promote effective collaboration between families and school. 

8. Demonstrate an understanding of learning and teaching; the ability to make thoughtful, informed decisions; and the ability to teach in an environment that demands the integration of theory and practice in a Catholic environment.

9. Successfully engage in collaborative strategic planning for curricular resources, staffing needs, and capital improvements.


The minimum requirements are: 

An undergraduate degree (BA, BS) from an accredited university of college. 

A California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential, a California Single Subject Teaching Credential, or equivalent from another state. 

3 years full-time teaching experience in a Catholic school.

The desire and ability to join a professional community of educators committed to providing a challenging standards-based curriculum in a Catholic environment of service. 

In addition to the above, the preferred requirements are: 

An advanced degree (MA, MS, EdD, PhD) in Education. 

A California Administrative Credential, Preliminary or Clear, or equivalent from another state.

5 years full-time teaching experience in a Catholic school.
