Liturgical Formation Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Liturgical Formation Coordinator is responsible for coordinating formation of Liturgical ministers including musicians and cantors.  The coordinator works in collaboration with other members of the staff to promote and update parish liturgical ministry in the Archdiocese.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

All Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church and they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

1.    Engages in and supports a collaborative culture within and beyond the office and is responsible for procedures implemented through the Office for Worship.

2.    Represents the Archdiocese and participates in national, regional, and local organizations and events to further the liturgical goals and mission of the office.

3.    Stays current with church documents, leading trends, and development as it pertains to liturgical ministry.

4.    Collaborates in department efforts to implement events on a diocesan and regional scale. 

5.     Promotes a positive working relationship with his/her co-workers. Shares responsibility for general supervision and appraisal where and when appropriate.

6.    Contributes to the development of the department budget.

7.     Performs related duties as required.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Meets with OFW staff on a bi-weekly basis to share calendar events and program information that pertain to the preparation of parish volunteer and staff Liturgical Ministers.

2.    Acts as liaison between the OFW and parishes in the Pastoral Regions of the Archdiocese.

3.    Aids parishes in implementing the liturgical philosophy, policy and directives of the Archdiocese.

4.    Offers resources, and consultations on all activities related to Liturgy at the parish level.

5.    Conducts informal parish visits upon request to assess and evaluate the effectiveness of parish Liturgical practice to offer suggestions and assistance.

6.    Convenes Directors, Coordinators, Liturgical Leaders and key parish personnel, on a semiannual basis, to enhance their professional growth.

7.    Informs constituents of days of enrichment and retreats for parish liturgical leaders.

8.    Presents on liturgical topics as needed including at annual Regional Congresses of the ORE.

9.    Collaborates with the Coordinator for Basic Faith Formation to ensure that liturgical ministers participate in a pre-requisite basic faith formation course.

10.  In consultation with parishes, determines the needs for liturgical formation to assist parish staff and volunteers.

11.  Assists and supports other OFW staff members in providing a thorough formation for parish liturgical ministers.

12.  Acts as an advocate for all ministries.

13.  Supports the work of other offices of the Archdiocesan Catholic Center especially

o   Safeguard the Children

§  VIRTUS

§  Teaching Touching Safety

o   Office of Religious Education

o   Office of Parish Life

o   Office of Deaconate Formation

14.  Performs related duties as required.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities, typically:

1.    Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.

2.    Bachelor’s degree in Liturgical Studies or related field.

3.    Experience in teaching liturgical formation at parish and diocesan levels.

4.    Master’s degree in Liturgical Studies or related field preferred.

5.     3-5 years diocesan or 5-7 years of parish liturgical leadership

6.     Program development experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Recognized organizational and inter-personal skills are required.  He/She should have an ability to work within diocesan systems and relate to the parish experience.

Knowledge of:

1.    Program planning, development, and organization and evaluation.

2.    Resource and budget management.

3.    Public speaking, group facilitation and teaching methodology.

4.    Professional use of social media and technology.

5.    Church music preferred.

6.    The multi-cultural nature of ministry in the Archdiocese.

7.    Archdiocesan principles and practices.

8.    Basic Church teachings of Liturgical and Canon Law

Skill in:

1.    Pastoral application of Church teaching especially the Liturgical documents.

2.    Effective communication in written and oral form.

3.    Use of current office software including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and power point.

4.    Long & short-range planning

Ability to:

1.    Communicate and teach in Spanish as well as English (required).

2.    Exercise personal initiative while collaborating with a team.

3.    Utilize a collaborative leadership style to facilitate the development of leadership in the parishes.

4.    Access parochial needs for Liturgical Formation

5.    Display sensitivity to various situations and needs

6.    Develop effective working relationships

7.    Analyze situations and use judgement and resourcefulness

8.    Answer basic Liturgical questions

9.    Flexible to work a varied schedule including weekends.

10.  Occasionally lift to 20 pounds.

11.  Sit for sustained periods of time daily.

12.  Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.

13.  Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
