POSITION SUMMARY:

Under direction of the Office of the Superintendent of the Department of Catholic Schools, the ISP Coordinator handles the administrative aspects of the Archdiocese’s F-1 international student program. Provides immigration officials with information about admitted students through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), an internet based tracking system. 

 

The main responsibilities of a PDSO:

 

 A PDSO is the main point of contact for Student and Exchange Visitor Program

   (SEVP).

 A PDSO must add, delete, and submit changes to the information for DSOs (Designated

  School Officials) in SEVIS.

 A PDSO must submit recertification application (Form I-17).

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 

·      Oversees the work of the DSO.

·      Assists schools in complying with federal SEVP regulations.

·      Advises students on maintaining F-1 status; assists out-of-status students in resolving visa issues.

·      Keeps all Form I-17 sections up to date and submits changes to school information. 

·      Creates, updates and maintains SEVIS records for F-1 international students.

·      Prints Form I-20s and pays/assists payment of the SEVIS I-901 fee.

·      Register initial and active SEVIS records each semester; verify that students’ U.S. address is accurate and up-to-date.

·      Acts as the liaison between the Department of Catholic School (DSC) and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Field Representatives.

·      Makes regular school site visits with Homeland Security Representatives.

·      Maintains internal records and statistics; and completes annual surveys on international student enrollment.

·      Advises schools and students on transfer out procedures; completes and submits transfer out verification forms; releases student SEVIS records to their new schools.

·      Annually endorses Form I-20s for travel.

·      Creates forms and/or other materials for F-1 international student program.

·      Composes correspondence, reports, and memos with minimal input from supervisor.

·      Acts as information source on Homeland Security policies and procedures regarding SEVIS; interprets data and events; may develop new clerical methods to handle data and document procedures as necessary.

·      Performs research duties to obtain information regarding SEVIS; collates, organizes and summarizes data for review and action by others; helps advise on DCS policy regarding F-1 international students.

·      Operates computer to enter data, format and generate reports using standard software.

·      Sets up and maintains confidential files and other records.

·      May provide foreign language support to students and/or guardians who lack English proficiency.

·      Uses tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive calls and situations and refers them appropriately.

·      Makes travel arrangements.

·      Opens, sorts, and distributes mail.

·      Receives relevant visitors (i.e. international students, guardians, agents, school staff etc.).

·      Performs other duties as assigned. 



Requirements:

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

 

  • Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.

·      High School graduation or equivalent.

·      2 years of secretarial training.

·      4 years of secretarial experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Knowledge of:

  • The mission and organizational structure of the Catholic Church.
  • Office procedures and business etiquette.
  • Current word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
  • English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Simple bookkeeping and record keeping methods and procedures.

Skill in:

  • Typing speed sufficient to meet production requirements (minimum of 60 wpm).
  • Operating a computer.
  • Written and oral communication.  For positions requiring bilingual skills,

the incumbent must be fluent in English and other relevant language.

  • Delegating tasks.
  • Public contact.
  • Report assembling
  • Short-range organizational planning.
  • Telephone communications.

Ability to:

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Compose correspondence and summarize information independently.

·      Occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.

·      Sit for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.

·      Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.

·       Sustain frequent movement of the fingers, wrists, hands, and arms.
