The Director is responsible for the vision, leadership and supervision of the religious education programs and processes of the Archdiocese. This includes directing the staff of the Office of religious education, coordinating the formation of catechetical leaders and evaluating the effectiveness of catechetical ministries, The Director is assisted in this function by the Associate Directors. 


Because all Archdiocese employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

 ·         Exercises a leadership role in the formulation and promulgation of the Philosophy, goals, objectives and vision of Religious Education in the Archdiocese.

·         Establishes and promulgates an organizational structure which facilitates the effective functioning of the office of religious education.

·         Facilitates collaboration and mutual support among the Adult/Young Adults, Youth ministry, Early Childhood, Elementary and Regional Divisions.

·         Exercises a leadership role in representing the ministry of religious education to its many publics.

·         Directs planning and supervision of the annual Religious Education Congress.

·         Acts a liaison with the pastors in all appropriate areas relating to the operation of parish based catechetical programs.

·         Establishes avenues of communication and cooperation among catechists of all levels in the Archdiocese

·         Acts as a liaison with Diocesan Directors of Religious Education of the other California dioceses on matters of mutual concern.

·         Develops and exercises oversight and accountability for the annual budget of the Office of Religious Education. ​ 

 Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.

Bachelor’s Degree.

Master’s Degree in Religious Education/Catholic Theology or equivalent.

Minimum Experience of 5 years in Religious Education/Catechetical formation, leadership, programming and finances.

Bi-Lingual Spanish/English preferred.

Computer/Technology skills.
