​Under the supervision of the Director of Liturgy, the Cathedral Sacristan coordinates and maintains the workings of the Cathedral Sacristy.

All Cathedral employees represent the Roman Catholic Church and are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

  • Demonstrates behaviors in concert with the Cathedral mission, values, policies and procedures. Adheres to strict confidentiality policies.
  • Builds and maintains positive working relationships and communications with all constituencies, including pastoral staff, volunteers, Cathedral and Archdiocesan staff and co-workers.
  • Working under the direction of the Director of Liturgy, is responsible for the preparations for Cathedral liturgical celebrations including, but not limited to, daily Masses, Sunday Masses, Weddings, Special Liturgies. Oversees, prepares and sets out items needed for liturgical events.
  • Participates in liturgical committees, as assigned.
  • Works with volunteer sacristans to keep and maintain an organized and effective sacristy for all cathedral liturgical events. Maintains the schedules for volunteer sacristans for all liturgical events.
  • Oversees, prepares and sets out items needed for liturgical events.
  • Works with the Director of Liturgy and the Assistant Director of liturgy to ensure supplies of materials needed to fulfill liturgical needs, i.e. hosts, wine, purificators, albs, vestments, plants, and flowers. 
  • Oversees all cleaning and maintenance of altar linens, vestments, laundry, steaming and ironing.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the main vesting room, the Archbishop’s vesting room, Work Sacristy and Ministers Vesting Room.
  • Maintains vestment needs of clergy in residence at the Cathedral.
  • Maintains the Cathedral Residence Chapel.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.



  •  Highly motivated, with strong ethics and integrity.
  • Punctual, with flexibility regarding work schedule; ability to work scheduled overtime and emergency overtime should the need arise.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills and a team player approach to pastoral ministry.
  • Ability to motivate co-workers and volunteers.
  • Capacity to exercise judgment and discretion when dealing with sensitive and/or confidential information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills; results oriented.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending and lifting up to 25 pounds; ability to work on feet for extended periods of time.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills


  • Three-plus years experience in Roman Catholic pastoral and liturgical environments. 
  • Bilingual English and Spanish.
  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • Well-developed skills in managing multiple tasks and competing priorities, and in meeting conflicting deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in working in a team environment as well as autonomous work.
