The DRE is responsible for the total religious education program of the parish children, youth Confirmation, and adult Confirmation, as designated by the pastor.


PREFERRED REQUISITES: Master Catechist and previous experience


As representative of the pastor, the DRE implements the parish religious education program in accordance with the parish mission statement and goals. The DRE manages program content, staff and budgets; coordinates with other parish ministries and activities; reports to pastor. In addition, the DRE shall:


  • Articulate a vision of catechesis and the catechetical process based on the major catechetical documents of the Church.
  • Review, evaluate, and develop programs, mission statements, long- and short-range goals and objectives.
  • Help the parish community develop and carry out its role as a catechizing agent.
  • Apply appropriate principles of human development, especially faith and moral development, to catechetical programs.
  • Utilize appropriate methodologies of adult-centered and/or child-centered learning.
  • Implement or support a program of catechist formation according to Archdiocesan certification norms.
  • Involve the family as an essential agent in the faith formation process, especially in the faith formation of children and adolescents.
  • Manage supplies, forms, and paperwork needed for each session, and work with FF Team to coordinate other organizational needs as required
  • Oversees the religious education and sacramental preparation programs from Preschool through 5th grade,
  • Use media and technology for effective program implementation.
  • Incorporate service opportunities, and reflections on these experiences, in catechetical programs for adults, adolescents, and children; especially linking such opportunities to the fostering of peace and justice.
  • Provide opportunities for participation in prayer, personal spiritual development and communal worship.
  • Initiate, manage and maintain registration and database needs for enrolled students; maintain records of permission forms, attendance and payments and act as primary contact person for all matters relating to registration and enrollment.
  • Coordinates and facilitates monthly Confirmation sessions.
  • Accompanies youth to Mass after Confirmation sessions and
  •  Coordinates Confirmation rituals/liturgy and facilitates rehearsals for candidates and sponsors. 
  • Coordinates with other parish ministries and families to foster youth participation at parish events.
  • Provides annual "Empowering God's Children" trainings to all minors and ensures that adult volunteers are fingerprinted and current with Virtus certification.
  • Communicates all events to parents, staff, and bulletin administrator on a regular basis.
  •  Performs administrative duties related to position.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings, regional coordinators' meetings, and annual conferences.





Continue developing the Family Catechesis Program (in existence for 2 years)
  • Pre-School and First Communion Children
  • Recruit Catechists for Family Catechesis
  • Guide the process
  •  Recruit students: sign-up tables after Sunday Masses and/or on-line registration for First Communion


 Post First Communion Grades

  • Recruit catechists to instruct children of all grade levels who cannot be part of the family catechesis program or who need continuing catechesis after First Communion as a lead into the Middle School and Confirmation Preparation, and ultimately Youth Ministry.
  • Recruit students: sign-up tables after Sunday Masses and/or on-line registration


Middle School

  • Youth Minister is in charge of this area.  The DRE plays a support role as the youth minister and youth ministry conducts these sessions as an introduction to the Youth Ministry
  • The Youth Minister will Recruit students: sign-up tables after Sunday Masses and/or on-line registration
  • The youth Minister and ministry will recruit catechists to instruct Middle School student as a lead into Confirmation Preparation and Youth Ministry in high school.


Confirmation Preparation Program

  • Adult Confirmation
