Mobile Maker Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Mobile Maker Experience is being developed and piloted by the C3 Maker Initiative in 2019-2020 to give archdiocesan elementary schools and students the opportunity to cultivate their creativity and explore experimental projects by reinforcing the disciplines of math, science, engineering, architecture, design, arts and crafts. In the pilot year, the Mobile Maker Coordinator will collaborate with the Mobile Maker Specialist in all aspects of the pilot, design implementation, directly instruct participants, provide support and assistance to teachers and students as they develop their learning and skills in a collaborative maker environment and will participate in evaluating and molding the initiative for the future. C3 is the branded name if the Catholic Communication Collaboration in and for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The position will be available from the hiring date through June 30, 2020, the anticipated end of the initial pilot program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and missions of the Church in performing their work. The Mobile Maker Coordinator will:

● Participate in planning the pilot rollout in Fall 2019.

● Collaborate with Mobile Maker Specialist, Department of Catholic Schools and Archdiocesan C3 team to implement the Mobile Maker Pilot.

● Coordinate logistics for all school visits (arrival time, set-up, location of power, etc.)

● Assist in preparing instruction and teaching materials that can be integrated into cross-curricular lessons in the classroom and use those materials in on-site teaching and instructing in the Mobile Maker Experience.

● Distribute and instruct teachers and students using on-site written instructions, documentation or tutorials.

● Convey and enforce safety protocols and ensure the proper use of equipment by the students.

● Assure that the Mobile Maker Experience area is clean and maintained.

● Assist in keeping the classes focused on projects given by establishing active participation and providing clear instructions for the mobile maker activities.

● Instruct students on how to use equipment and materials during the activities.

· Organize and maintain Mobile Maker Experience files and supplies.

· Participate with the Mobile Maker Specialist and the Archdiocesan C3 Technology Teams in evaluating and molding the pilot for long term implementation and deployment.

· Perform related duties as required.

Requirements:

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, typically:

· Active member of a Roman Catholic faith community.

· Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Science, Eudcation or related field.

· Two years of experience teaching computer science or math or science or art.

· Experience in working with K-8 students.

· Extensive experience using various technology devices.

· Two year of experience in a technology coordinator role preferred.

· Valid Class C California Driver’s License.

· Valid California Teaching Credential, desirable but not required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

· The mission and organizational structure of the Catholic Church.

· The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS).

· Knowledge of math, engineering, design, science concepts.

· Creative approach to problem solving and instruction.

· Excellent interpersonal, written, oral, and computer skills.

· Software/Apps/Sites such as Seesaw, EdPuzzle, Flipgrid, the Adobe Suite, Office 365 and the Google Suite.

· Simple record keeping of methods and procedures.

Skill in:

· Classroom management and formal and informal instruction.

· Working in various school environments and locations with staff, educators and students in numerous schools settings.

· Creative-entrepreneurial spirit, detail oriented, organized and flexible.

· Excellent oral and written communication.

Ability to:

· Maintain confidentiality.

· Maintain professional demeanor.

· Conduct assessments, prepare reports and evaluation materials.

· Drive and oversee maintenance of the C3 Maker Initiative vehicle.

· Set-up the Mobile Maker Experience for schools.

· Prepare and demonstrate Mobile Maker Experience activities, experiments and projects.

· Maintain Mobile Maker Experience equipment and supplies.

· Stock, order and assist in maintenance of all equipment and resources needed for activities.

· Pack-up the Mobile Maker Experience upon completion of school visit.

· Keep detailed records and reports from each Mobile Maker Experience visit (equipment usage, accidents, time spent on projects, etc.)

· Commit strongly to educating students in a mobile maker environment.

· Creatively and enthusiastically approach instruction and presentations.

· Work collaboratively with the C3 team.

Physical Conditions:

· Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

· Sit or stand for sustained periods of time on a daily basis.

· Perform tasks requiring intermittent bending, stooping, and walking.

· Movements consistent with the use of keyboard and office equipment.

· Reaching, lifting, grasping, pushing, pulling.

· Mobile, open air, classroom and office environment, exposure to noise, lighting, and indoor and outdoor environments.
