Damien High School, a Los Angeles Archdiocesan, single-gender male Catholic high school located in the city of La Verne, has announced a candidate search to fill the position of Principal, commencing with the 2020-2021 academic year. Working collaboratively with the school President, the Principal will provide enthusiastic, mission-centered leadership to ensure strong academic and co-curricular programs permeated by the Catholic faith. The start date for the Principal is July 1, 2020.


Reporting to the President and the Department of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Principal leads the faculty and staff in their ongoing efforts to provide a school community that inspires students to become morally aware, academically capable leaders who are outstanding contributors in a complex technological and global society.  The principal is the chief educational leader of the school and will provide dynamic, mission-centered leadership of academic and co-curricular programs and is responsible for all aspects of the school’s daily operation, with particular emphasis on student academic and co-curricular progress and faculty professional development and accountability.


The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:


  • Knowledgeable and practicing Catholic with a thorough understanding of Catholic school philosophy
  • Completed or is willing to complete catechist training
  • Committed to modeling the values of Catholic educational leadership
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Administration, Secondary Education, or related field AND/OR California Administrative Services Credential

  • Three to five years of successful administrative experience in a Catholic high school
  • Thorough knowledge of current approaches to curriculum, instruction, and assessment, and the ability to implement innovative approaches to drive achievement outcomes.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills including proven ability to engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Experience building, coaching, and empowering effective teams and holding team members accountable for performance.
