Mission & Values

Because all Archdiocesan employees represent the Roman Catholic Church, they are expected to conduct themselves according to the goals and mission of the Church in performing their work.

Equal Employment Opportunity

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles recruits, hires, and promotes on the basis of merit, competence, and qualifications, without being influenced by race, color, national origin, ancestry, physical disability, mental disability, medical condition, marital status, sex, age, pregnancy, handicap or veteran status. This applies to hiring, promotion, transfer and termination. However, the Archdiocese of Los Angeles reserves the right to make employment decisions based on principles of Catholic moral teaching, religious preferences, and other religious needs, criteria, and policies.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles has the right to be the sole judge of merit, competence, and qualifications, and can favor Catholic applicants and current employees in all employment decisions.

Job-related criteria are used in making employment selection decisions. Selection criteria are based on the specific applicant’s job skills relative to the essential functions of the job and the minimum qualifications and responsibilities of the job vacancy for which the applicant has applied. All staff are expected to fulfill the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation for any disabilities or medical condition they may have.

Archbishops Employment Prayer

God our Creator,
We thank You for the gift of life that makes us all sisters and brothers. We thank You for the gift of human labor that makes us Your co-workers in building Your Kingdom.
Give us love to help those who don't have work and those who don't have enough work. Give us faith to build a society where every worker is treated with dignity.
May everything we do be done with joy and love for Your glory and the good of our neighbors.
God, we trust in Your Holy Spirit of love and in the care and example of St. Joseph and our Blessed Mother Mary.
We ask all these things through Your Son, Jesus Christ — who worked with human hands and loved with a human heart.
