 Maria Mesa Ayala

Maria Meza Ayala de 92 años de edad, sobreviviente de la Guerra Cristera en México, comparte la historia de su padre, José Meza Glavez, un fuerte cristero que escondió a muchos sacerdotes en su casa, en su esfuerzo por salvarles la vida durante la persecución de Católicos durante la guerra civil "Cristiada" de tres años.  Más de 90 míl personas murieron, en su mayoría hombres y numerosos sacerdotes, entre ellos su tío, San Rafael Guizar Valencia, el cual fue beatificado por el Papa Juan Pablo II en 1995 y canonizado por el Papa Benedicto XVI en 2006.


Maria Meza Ayala, is a 92-year-old survivor of Mexico’s Cristeros War, shares the story of her father, Jose Meza Glavez, a strong Cristero who hid many priests in his house in his effort to save them from getting killed by the Mexican government that persecuted all Catholics during the three-year civil War.

For three days, Maria Meza, her four sisters and their mother, Maria Ayala, hid in a cave while all the men in town fought against the government’s army.

More than 90,000 people died, mostly men and numerous priests, including her uncle, St. Rafael Guizar Valencia. A bishop, he was beatified by Pope John Paul II in 1995 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.
