Faculty
Dr. Diane Bergant, CSA, is Professor of Biblical Studies and Director of
the D.Min program at CTU Chicago. Her research interests include biblical
theology and interpretation, the integrity of creation, feminism, liberationist
perspectives, and world mission.
Rev. Lawrence Boadt, CSP, taught at Washington Theological Union for
twenty-two years and is currently the Publisher of Paulist Press in New
York.
Dr. Camilla Burns, SNDdeN, is the Director of the Institute of Pastoral
Studies at Loyola University, Chicago, and Associate Professor of Biblical
Studies.
Fr. Jim Clarke is the director of spiritual formation and chair of the
spiritual theology department at St. John's Seminary, Camarillo.
Dr. Gina Hens-Piazza is an Associate Professor of Biblical Studies at
the Jesuit School of Theology in the Graduate Theological Union at Berkeley,
CA. She has written and lectured extensively on the biblical prophets,
culture and the bible, and women's issues in biblical interpretation.
Rev. Felix Just, SJ, is a New Testament scholar who specializes in the
Johannine Literature and in the use of the Bible in the Lectionary and
Liturgy.
Rev. Patrick Mullen is a priest of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and
is currently Assistant Professor of Biblical Studies - New Testament,
at St. John's Seminary, Camarillo, CA.
Kay Murdy holds a Master's Degree in Religious Studies from Mount St.
Mary's College and is the author of three books. She writes a monthly
column for Ministry and Liturgy magazine.
Barbara Murphy holds a Masters Degree from Loyola Marymount University with a concentration in scripture. She is a member of the Society of Biblical
Literature and the Catholic Biblical Association.
Rev. Edward Owens, S.SS.T. specializes in Hebrew Scripture and is Assistant
Professor for Biblical Studies at St. John's Seminary, Camarillo.
Rev. Donald Senior, CP, is President of Catholic Theological Union in
Chicago, IL, where he also teaches as a Professor of New Testament Studies.
A Passionist priest, Fr. Senior has published extensively on biblical
topics. He is currently a member of the Pontifical Biblical Commission.
Dr. Jeff Siker is Professor of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount
University in Los Angeles, where he also serves as Chair of the Department.
Dr. Siker teaches and publishes in the area of New Testament studies.
He is the author of Disinheriting the Jew: Abraham in Early Christian
Controversy and of Scripture and Ethics: Twentieth Century Portraits.
He is also the editor of Homosexuality in the Church: Both Sides of the
Debate.
Dr. Judy Siker is Professor of New Testament at the Graduate Theological Union and American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley, California. An ordained Presbyterian minister, Dr. Judy Siker presented at the 2003 Summer Session of the Catholic Bible Institute.
Dr. Daniel Smith-Christopher teaches Old Testament (Hebrew Bible) in the Dept. of Theological Studies at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. He has several published scholarly articles, reviews, chapters and books, and presents widely in the United States. He was a consultant and contributor to the A&E Television series "Mysteries of the Bible".
Team
Bob King, a W.W.II veteran, received a BA degree from Siena College and
did his graduate work in school administration. Since his retirement in
1985 he has been deeply involved in parish activities. He has been a Catholic
Bible Institute team member since it's beginning. Bob coordinates the audio
tape ministry for the Institute.
Dorothy King has received certificates in Pastoral Studies and Bible
Studies from Orange Catechetical Institute and Loyola Marymount University.
She has been a Master Lector in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles with the
Office For Worship since 1985. Dorothy is a founding member of the Catholic
Bible Institute.
Fr. David Loftus, Coordinator and Consultant for Adult Education and
Catechist Formation at the Office of Religious Education, convenes the
CBI coordinating team. Fr. David is the ORE staff member responsible
for coordination of the Catholic Bible Institute.
Sr. Clare Melody is an Administrative Assistant at the Office of Religious
Education and has been a member of the coordinating team since its inception.
Barbara Murphy is a well known teacher of Scripture both at St. Paul the Apostle Parish
and in the LMU Extension program. She is a member of the Society of Biblical
Literature, the Catholic Biblical Association and serves on the leadership
team for the Catholic Bible Institute which is jointly sponsored by LMU
and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
Bob Murdy is a graduate of Loyola Marymount University and has been involved
in parish ministry for over 40 years. He is a founding member of the
Catholic Bible Institute and works primarily in the area of administrative
support.
Kay Murdy is a founding member of the teaching and coordinating team
of the Catholic Bible Institute. She has a Master's in Religious Studies
from Mount St. Mary's College, is the author of four books, and writes
a monthly column for Ministry and Liturgy magazine.
