1. Over the past few weeks and in the very near future there will be many new coordinators of youth ministry and confirmation beginning at parishes across the Archdiocese. Please reach out and welcome them when you can. Give them a call or just drop by to say hello. One of the biggest issues for a new coordinator can be the feeling of being out there in the desert alone. Be a good neighbor and say hello. Some parishes that have new or will have new coordinators are: Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish in Sun Valley, St. Mary’s Parish in Palmdale, St. Luke Parish in Temple City, San Gabriel Mission in San Gabriel, St. Jerome Parish in Los Angeles, St. John Fisher Parish in Rancho Palos Verdes, St. Julie Biliart Parish in Newbury Park, Sacred Heart in Los Angeles, St. Bede in La Cañada, and a few more. If I didn’t mention your parish please let me know and I’ll add you to our list! Welcome to all of our new coordinators and THANK YOU to all of the coordinators moving on!
2. There are over 15 Youth Ministry/Confirmation/Campus Ministry Coordinators participating in one of the two upcoming Silent Directed Retreats offered by the Office of Religious Education starting next week (June 23-27) and the next week (June 29-July 3). The retreats will be held at Mary and Joseph Retreat Center in Palos Verdes. Both weeks have been completely filled for a while (a great problem to have). Please pray for those coordinators and all who are taking advantage of this great opportunity. Please think about joining us next year for a week of prayer, silence, spiritual direction, and community support!
3. Attached is a letter from Christine Fuller who is the Executive Director of the Lay Mission-Helpers Association. She is looking for young adults (and that means you, too, coordinators) to be part of an Emerging Leaders Board that will help prepare young adults to become board members of non-profit organizations. This is a GREAT way to get training for becoming a board member of any organization AND to help an important ministry at the same time. Christine would love for you to check out the organization at www.laymissionhelpers.org and to contact her at cfuller@laymissionhelpers.org or (213) 368-1874. Take a look at the invitation letter attached and please pray about helping this organization and gaining skills at the same time! Please pass the word on to young adults in your community or ministry that might be interested.

4. As of today, June 19, 2008, there are only 25 spots left for the Christian Leadership Institute. If you are planning to submit applications for the program please know that it will fill up in the next week or two. We will start a waiting list as soon as we hit our max number of 77 young people (this is because there are only so many beds available at the retreat center). PLEASE note that an application is the ONLY thing that can reserve a spot for a young person. We realize how hard it is to get youth to fill out forms, but we do have to stop once we reach our max. Thanks for your understanding!
