Catholic Campaign for Human Development
The message at the heart of Catholic social teaching has always been justice and hope for the poor. In 1969, the U.S. Catholic bishops created the Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), to fund domestic anti-poverty projects organized by low-income communities and organizations. CCHD has become the largest national funding program for self-help projects aimed at social change.
Since its inception, CCHD has provided technical assistance and allocated over $5 million in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles to organizations controlled by poor and low-income people seeking institutional change in the social, political, and economic arenas.
