Office of Respect Life

The Office of Respect Life promotes the dignity and sanctity of human life from conception to natural death through programs advocating prayer, education, pastoral care and advocacy.

The Office functions as staff to the Archdiocesan Commission for Catholic Life Issues and works to implement its programs. The Office also acts in accordance the Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities published by the Pro-Life Committee of the National Committee of Catholic Bishops in Washington DC.

It is the responsibility of the Office to foster the education of the laity and to encourage, promote and coordinate their activities regarding Life Issues.

Goals Statement

Under the direction of the Commission for Catholic Life issues we:

  • Identify and correspond with a Respect Life Chairman appointed by the pastor in each parish.
  • Direct the work of the five Regional Respect Life Councils which meet quarterly. Parish chairmen are members of the Regional Councils.
  • Direct the Project Rachel Outreach Program and offer continuing education on Post Abortion Syndrome to priests and counselors.
  • Raise the consciousness of the clergy to the necessity of speaking out on Life Issues, especially abortion and legalized, active euthanasia.
  • Encourage cooperation in the parishes in projects established by the National Committee for the Human Life Amendment, e.g. Project Life.
  • Participate with the Office of Justice and Peace to promote the Consistent Ethic of Life.
  • Educate all voters to be sensitive to Catholic Life Issues which effect issues of public policy.
