Sister Mary Anncarla Costello, SND, Vicar for Women Religious
The title “Vicar for Women Religious” identifies the person who represents the Ordinary of the Archdiocese to those who are members of religious communities within it and carries out the responsibilities he sees as related to their lives as consecrated religious. I assist Cardinal Mahony especially through personal and group contacts with the women religious of the Archdiocese, through consultation with the Congregation of Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life and through collaboration with the other Vicars of Religious in the United States. In addition, I also represent women religious living and working in the Archdiocese in all matters directly related to the local Church by communicating the needs of the sisters to the appropriate diocesan administrative office, by being a representative presence of sisters at official Archdiocesan functions and by visiting with individual sisters and religious communities as appropriate.
