Archdiocese of Los Angeles

Archdiocesan Women Religious

We in the Office of Archdiocesan Women Religious are committed to helping the women religious in the Archdiocese to make sense of how they are living the Paschal Mystery within their own communal and cultural realities. There is wide diversity: young communities, endeavoring to respond in new ways to the needs of the people they are called to serve; diminishing communities, dealing with the realities of aging membership and dwindling numbers which they know are the portents to the death of their loved religious orders.  Areas of service to women religious our office provides includes the following:

  • planning enrichment programs for members of religious communities
  • planning liturgical celebrations
  • visiting communities and sisters
  • meeting with individual sisters
  • negotiating compensation related to communities
  • keeping brief biographical data about communities and individual sisters
  • meeting with major superiors of communities on a regular basis
  • facilitating meetings with the Cardinal, regional bishops and major superiors annually
  • assisting the coordinating committee of the Sisters’ Council in planning its quarterly meetings
  • attending meetings of the National Conference of Vicars for Religious and other regional meetings
  • providing a clearing house for ministry positions and for those seeking positions
  • assisting sisters with issues of immigration
