A Conversation with God
Me: Oh, God, there goes that thought again about becoming a sister (brother, deacon, priest). Why does it keep coming back?
God: Listen to it.
Me: It's so scary. I have too much to lose.
God: Like what?
Me: After all that education, I finally got a job. Do you know how hard it is to find a job nowadays? And I am comfortable in my own place, driving my own car, enjoying my friends.
God: I can offer you more.
Me: Sure! A life without a family, in an institution, without the independance I have now. No way!
God: I only invite. I never coerce.
Me: That's what makes it difficult. If you only gave me a crystal clear sign, something dramatic, then I wouldn't be so confused.
God: I am giving you signs. You enjoy your present ministry more than your job. There is a desire in you to give more of yourself and to have more meaning inyourlife.
Me: Well, I'm too afraid to get up in front of everybody and speak like the priests do. It takes too long to study to become a priest. It looks too lonely. Or...I'm afraid of committing myself to a religious community. What is the best way for me to use my gifts?
God: I will give you what you need. You will experience more love and affection from my people than you ever thought possible. You will see me work through your weakness and fears.
Me: All these thoughts scare me.
God: Give it careful thought. Stay close to me. Sit with me when all the others have gone, and you will see more clearly. Your desires will grow and your fear diminish.
