 Office of Worship

The Office for Worship represents the voice of the Archbishop - the head liturgist - in the liturgical life of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.    The office fosters, nurtures, and enhances liturgical celebration within the Archdiocese through education and formation of all ministers, inclusive of clerical and lay; acts as a consultative office for Church liturgical renovation; prepares and celebrates stational liturgies.

In the beginning paragraphs of Gather Faithfully Together, Cardinal Mahony’s pastoral letter on Sunday Eucharist, we read:

We the church assemble on the Lord’s Day, and that assembly, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, speaks and listens to the Word of God, makes holy and is made holy by its Eucharistic praying and the sacred banquet of Holy Communion. (GFT: 3)

It is this vision of a church transformed by the liturgy it celebrates Sunday after Sunday which inspires the ministry of the Office for Worship. Our service is deeply rooted in our commitment to do what we can to unleash the power and meaning of liturgy well-celebrated. Formation, education, training, consultation of liturgical ministry at all levels is central to our mission.

This Web site is designed to reinforce, affirm and expand upon the more traditional approaches already mentioned. We invite you to partake of the rich and varied resources you will find here in the sincere hope that your liturgical experience on Sunday will continue to live in every moment of your daily life.
