Dear Pastor, Deacon, and Lay Leader:
Beginning in the Fall 2011, the Office for Worship will launch a two-year program in Advanced Liturgy offering Certification in Spanish in three areas of Liturgy: Initiation, Song and Music, and Parish Liturgist.
Most Pastors are in great need of well formed and prepared men and women able to deal with liturgical matters at the parish level in the important ministries of Initiation, Music and Liturgy.
Our program prepares laity, religious and clergy to do the following:
- Implement the Rite of Christian Initiation
- Lead and oversee all pastoral musicians, choirs and cantors in the parish
- Form liturgical ministers at the parish to prepare sacramental liturgies, create worship aids, and create an environment appropriate to the celebration.
Pastors interested in sending parishioners to be certified must recommend them with full confidence that they will be able to participate fully by attending all classes and completing the necessary assignments (college level).
Classes will be held at St. Marcellinus Parish (City of Commerce, Washington and Atlantic Blvds. well connected via most freeways dotting the vast area of our Archdiocese. Classes meet the second Saturday of every month, from September 2011 through June of 2013, from 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M.
The financing for every student is based on comparable programs, such as the master catechist run by the DRE, $30.00 per class, or $300.00 per year.
Most classes will be taught by Fr. Pedro López, Dr. Linda O’Brien-Rothe, Sr. Rosanne Belpedio, and Fr. Manuel Sanahuja. In addition there are some professionals in specific areas who have worked with the Office for Worship through the years. All classes have an academic component, including reading, written, and practical assignments. All assignments will corrected and graded by the Director of the Program, Fr. Manuel Sanahuja.
