"Priestly spirituality in a Changing Church" is the subtitle of a new book of reflections on priestly life and ministry (NFPC). With fewer priests, increased needs and shifting paradigms, what are the essential “ingredients” in our lived experience of being priests in the world and Church of today? Fr. Jack will lead participants to reflect on what is “non-negotiable” for them in living a healthy, vibrant and practical spirituality. - February 14-18, 2006 Presenter: Fr. James Clarke
Ministry in the Second Half of Life: ministry constantly points out our strengths and weaknesses. The more we mature in our ministries the more we have to face the unanswered questions of our lives. From conflict to paradox to revelation God leads us through to the Promised Land. Using questions from the Scriptures, Fr. Jim Clarke will lead the retreatants on a journey of self-reflection and discovery. - March 6-10, 2006 Presenter: Msgr. Charles Hill
Msgr. Hill entitles this preached retreat “There Was Darkness Over the Abyss.” He will lead participants in reflection on the following questions: Am I functionally an atheist? What do I want? What am I looking for? Is there a hidden fire deep within me? Can I see the light in the darkness? Am I IN love? - March 20-24, 2006 Presenter: Fr. Jack Stoeger
This retreat, “Expanding Our Horizons of Prayer,” will focus on the Eucharist and the Word of God as well as prayerfully identifying more personal “ways” to open ourselves to God in our busy lives and ministries. - May 1-5, 2006 Presenter: Fr. Ronald Raab, C.S.C.
Soul Fire: Luke’s Divine Questions—The questions Jesus asks in Luke’s Gospel are fire for our lives and ministry. Together we will explore how Jesus’ questions speak to console and challenge us as priests. Questions are holy ground for change and choice. The retreat centers on conversation, praying with one another and silence. (Fr. Raab serves the Gospel of the poor as Associate Pastor of the Downtown Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul, Portland, Oregon. He also writes in Ministry and Liturgy magazine and a well-known retreat director.) - May 15-19, 2006 Presenter: Fr. Harry Cronin, C.S.C.
This retreat will be A Meditation on the Priesthood Based on the Work of Several Priest-poets, including Thomas Merton and Gerard Manly Hopkins. It will also include optional evening sessions on the use of poetry, story and drama in preaching. (Fr. Cronin is Professor in religious drama and film and the arts in preaching and worship, GTU Berkeley. He is also a professional playwright.)
