The Tribunal and the Office for Canonical Services
The Tribunal handles matters related to declarations of nullity or ecclesiastical dissolutions with the exception of Lack of Form cases. The Office for Canonical Services handles Lack of Form petitions and all dispensations and permissions involved in marriage preparation.
Tribunal Hours
The Tribunal is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. It is closed on weekends, most national holidays, and some Church holy days. It is also closed the week between Christmas and New Year.
Information and Services at the Main and Oxnard Offices
A member of the staff with a degree in canon law is available for consultation each day the main office is open. Should you have questions or wish to consult on some matter, please call the Tribunal at (213) 637-7245 and ask for the “canonist on duty.” If he or she is not immediately available, please leave a message and the canonist will return your call as soon as possible.
If you are in need of questionnaires, Tribunal forms, et cetera, please
call the same number and we will be happy to send the material to you.
The Northern Branch of the Tribunal handles only formal trial petitions
of petitioners residing in Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties. Other
types of petitions, even if the petitioner resides in one of the northern
counties, are to be submitted to the Tribunal’s main office.

Formal Trial Cases in Process at the Main Office: If you do not know the name of the judge to whom the case is assigned, please phone 213 637 7245 and supply the case name and number. You will be informed of the judge and your call transferred. If you already know the judge, you may phone that person directly.
