Spiritual Direction Phase I
What is it ?
It is a nine session series focusing upon the "what" of spiritual direction. Experienced directors will draw from their own backgrounds in discussing important facets of this special ministry.
Who may attend?
Those interested in exploring the concept of spiritual direction and retreat work in terms of a possible service, those beginning this work, those who have been involved in informal direction and wish some formal preparation.
What are the requirements?
Participants must have a life of prayer, have a spiritual director, be able to commit to Phase I, and be at least 30 years of age. Two letters of recommendation are required at the time of application.
What are the topics?
Orientation, definition and overview of spiritual and retreat direction; basic listening skills; stages of prayer; history of spirituality; understanding religious experience; the Spiritual Exercises; crisis / darkness in prayer; legal / ethical issues related to spiritual direction.
