Spirituality Center

"The spiritual life is first a life. It is not merely something to be known and studied, it is to be lived."
—Thomas Merton

"Spiritual life is the banquet, the perfume, the flowering and fulfillment of a human life, not a supernatural virtue imposed upon it."
—Joseph Campbell

The Spirituality Center was established in 1983 as the Archdiocesan Spirituality Center. Due to administrative reorganizing, it was renamed the Spirituality Center in 2002.

The Center's purpose is to be a listening, discerning, Christian presence in the midst of a busy world; to serve as a place of information and support for those who desire to grow in their relationship with God; through its emphasis on spiritual direction, to follow in the ministry of Jesus, leading to wholeness and holiness; to welcome people of all faiths and to draw from the ancient contemplative tradition of the Catholic Church.

Spiritual Direction

The Spirituality Center provides referrals for those who are looking for a spiritual director. Each person on the list of directors for the archdiocese has received formal preparation and training for this ministry either through the Center's three-year program or through other programs which the Center recognizes.

It is important that persons seeking a spiritual director meet with the director or associate director of the Center to obtain recommendations. If you would like to be referred to a spiritual director, please call for an appointment or send an e-mail to tbernard@msmc.la.edu.
