The Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy (CSL) teaches us the following about liturgy: "Still, the liturgy is the summit toward which the activity of the Church is directed; at the same time it is the fount from which all the Church’s power flows. CSL:10 "We need to have in both mind and heart the Council’s vision of a Church that can… achieve the full, conscious and active participation that is the ‘primary, indeed the indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian Spirit’" CSL:14. Cardinal Mahony's pastoral letter, Gather Faithfully Together (GFT) expands on this: "How else can this Church live without that spirit? And where else can such spirit be found? We will receive eagerly our Tradition, celebrate our rites, from Sunday to Sunday and season to season, so that we are slowly fashioned into Catholics whose lives are God’s own love for the world." GFT:124
